Can you introduce yourself in a few lines? My name is Marlène, I am 29 years old and I am interior decorator.
What are the creations you do, by hand? I realize macrame creations, with my little hands, at home in France.
How did you discover this art? A friend of mine shared a realization she was doing, it was a lamp shade for a lamp. I did not know macramé at all, but I loved it! It was the favorite!
What inspired you to make your own creations? How did you learn? I had just moved into my new home and was looking for wall decorations. Since I had very little money and I am manual, I called my mentor: internet! I learned to do macramés by watching tutorials.
What was your first creation? My first creation was a wall hanging about 60cm wide and 80cm long, made with rope bought in supermarkets. I knew that the cotton rope was the best suited but I had no idea of the diameter that was needed, nor even the amount of rope needed ... The knots were not regular, not tight, the piece n ' had no structure, no outfit ... but it was my first baby and I was proud of it.
How long have you been doing your creations? My first creation was made in November 2017. I did some afterwards for family and friends. Then, over time, I began to sell more and more until my main activity.
What makes you happy? Creating the article and sending it to people who trust me to beautify their interior is a real pleasure. Their nice little returns make me hot in the heart too.
You must know that I suffer from severe anxiety disorders. Because of that, I could not do my job as an interior designer anymore because I could not get out of my house. I had to find something to occupy my days and I discovered a real passion for craft creation. This passion helps me a lot to get rid of these anxiety disorders: go get the wood in the forest, post orders, go buy the necessary equipment in the store because we can not always rely on the internet, meet new people, etc. ..
What is the best moment of your day? In the morning when I get up, I realize that my work is anything but a constraint and that I will do it with the greatest pleasure.
Can you tell us a funny anecdote? Before appealing to a French company for the driftwood of my wall hangings, I went to look for branches in the small forest near my home. So I passed the houses with my saw and my gloves to cut the largest (already fallen to the ground obviously) ... oddly nobody ever asked me a question or call the police ... but I had the right to looks not very serene.
If you could only bring 5 things on a trip, what would it be? Rope, my scissors, my meter, my camera and can my cat be considered an object? Exceptionally?
Can you introduce yourself in a few lines? My name is Elina, I am 43 years old and I am of Greek origin. I live in France since 5 years with my companion Cristian and my dog Freeda (Freedom). I have a degree in Art History from the University of Essex in England.
What are the creations you do, by hand? I create yoga bags to transport yoga mats with care and style.
How did you discover this art? I always wanted to do something manual, creative. My grandmother and my mother were not, I did not have much experience but I did a lot of research. One day, I came across a book by Julia Cameron "Unleash your creativity". It was a week-long kind of 12 seminar and I followed her alone at home. It helped me to discover my love for fabrics, textures, color, designs and especially their magic!
Since 2005, I have not stopped learning this art. There were many broken needles and torn tissue. Fortunately I have progressed but I still keep the same passion and the same love for sewing.
What inspired you to make your own creations? How did you learn? When I arrived in France, I did not speak French. I wanted to discover this beautiful country and this wonderful (but also difficult) language.
I quickly enrolled in a yoga class and made a bag for my carpet. My yoga teacher, Philippe, encouraged me to create some yoga bags for sale in his studio. I did not even have a sewing machine yet, she stayed in Greece ahaha!
Fortunately, miracles still exist and a girl lent me her sewing machine.
What was your first creation? Bracelets with ribbons, satin, velvet and pearls. At the time I sewed by hand, even the buttonholes!
How long have you been doing your creations? I started sewing in 2005 and started creating yoga bags in 2015.
What makes you happy? An empty loft with lots of fabrics to recover, a store sells fabrics from around the globe, travel without knowing which restaurant is the best, walk with my dog, go on an adventure
What is the best moment of your day? In the morning, when I sit in front of my sewing machine. It brings me a real well-being
Can you tell us a funny anecdote? Yes ! I lived in France for only two weeks. I wanted to go to the town hall of the village where my companion lives, to inform me. I went downtown alone. I looked everywhere: there was a school, a city hall to sleep, a bakery but I could not find the town hall. In the evening, I spoke with my companion who assures me that the town hall is in the center of the main square.
The next day I go back and I took a long time to understand that the city hall was not a hotel to sleep, but the town hall ...
If you could only bring 5 things on a trip, what would it be? A swimsuit, walking shoes, my yoga mat, a book .... and my cellphone!
Can you introduce yourself in a few lines? My name is Cecile, I am 44 years old and I am a mother of a tribe of 5 children. I have long been passionate about ecology and nature. I try at my level to participate in its protection and to pass on these important values to my children.
How did you discover this art? I discovered sewing during my childhood with my grandmother, my mother and my aunt.
What inspired you to make your own creations? How did you learn? At the birth of my last son and my parental leave, I returned to sewing more intensely. I already had notions of sewing so I trained myself on various techniques that I did not master as much as I wanted too much to perfect myself.
What was your first creation? A big bib for my son to eat properly. I chose to do organic cotton because I have always been sensitive to the ecology and well-being of my children.
How long have you been doing your creations? It's been a long time! At first I sewed decorative accessories only for the needs. There are 3 years, I decided to make my job.
What makes you happy? Have an idea that germinates in my head, can put it on paper before finalizing the choice of fabrics and the boss. And once the creation is done and available, receive feedback from my customers who tell me about their satisfaction. It is in these moments that I feel good and in my place.
What is the best moment of your day? I like the calm of the morning when the children are asleep. It's a moment that I take for myself, to think about my day. I can go for a walk near the house with my dogs to see the day get up. It is a moment of serenity and sharing with my animals that I appreciate very much.
Can you tell us a funny anecdote? I was sewing at the workshop and my son 5 years proudly launches me: "Mum, you are seamstress" I really appreciated this mix of words that corresponds perfectly to my personality.
If you could only bring 5 things on a trip, what would it be? A cloth bag, binoculars, a notebook, a camera and a book.
Can you introduce yourself in a few lines? My name is Cécile and I touch any textile from mother to daughter since at least 4 generations. We can say that I fell in the creative pot very small. I was surrounded and initiated by grandmothers seamstresses and "serial-crocheting", painters and various family artists bathed my childhood.
What are the creations you do, by hand? I design and make all my creations by hand, also with the help of my sewing machine but especially with patience and love of work well done. I make essential articles for a trip: a jewelery pocket, a lingerie pouch, a mask of rest and travel kits.
What inspired you to make your own creations? How did you learn? Seeing my family doing their own creations, it was obvious to me to do the same. I learned how to sew with my family and then, because my mother dreamed of an artistic career, she let me take a training as a fashion stylist.
What was your first creation? My first creation was a white crochet dress for my Barbie doll. I must always have it in a box with a miniature wardrobe ... Since I did not stop to imagine and create!
What inspires you today? My first inspirers are my daughters: I started after birth. Naturally I began by sewing clothes, disguises, toys and accessories.
Then my activity grew with them and I switched to more adult creations.
What makes you happy? What makes me happy is the return of my clients: when I knew their needs and when they tell me that this is exactly what they dreamed! I reached my goal and realized my mission ....
What is the best moment of your day? There can be many better moments in my day: a word of thanks, the end of the realization of a project or just the reception of a package of new fabrics!
Can you tell us a funny anecdote? There is an amusing anecdote that inspired me the phrase "serial-crocheting". One day I went to my father's house, he took 3 out of his attic and told me it was my grandmother's inheritance. Inside there were dozens of vintage DMC cardboard boxes, some dated early 1971. I also found dozens of boxes containing white cotton balls. I inherited a good hundred balls of white cotton and bedspreads with unfinished hooks.
It was at least 15 years ago. I gave many balls of white cotton, I crocheted, I dyed and I still have ...
If you could only bring 5 things on a trip, what would it be? I always bring creative materials on my travels: first my notebook and pencils, I always have something to write or draw, inspiration is everywhere! I would also bring something to crochet or knit, a camera, a good book on Egypt and finally a large bag that I would have designed with many pockets to store all that and the little memories that I can not help but to bring back (driftwood, pebbles, shells ...)
Can you introduce yourself in a few lines? : Hello, my name is Élise, I am 44 years old. I am independent, curious and an eternal traveler!
What are the creations you do? I created a collection of Malas in semiprecious stones and silver 925. I also create yoga mat designs in collaboration with illustrator Laurie de Brondeau. These yoga mat are then created in Portugal, in an ethical way. They are all ecological and respectful of the environment.
I am very inspired by nature, which has a primordial place in my life.
How did you discover this taste of creation? It was during a trip to Sri Lanka in 2002 that I discovered the mâlâs and their meaning as well as the story of Buddha. This journey through this beautiful country was a real revelation for me. The creations of the malas were the beginning of a beautiful story.
What inspires you the most? I am mainly inspired by the nature and universe of yoga that I practice all the days in recent years.
What were your first creations? My first creations were bracelets in semi-precious stones and travel accessories (passport cases, pouches ...)
How long have you been doing your creations? It is now 4 years that I create jewels but there is not much time to enlarge my collection. So I work in collaboration with wonderful creators. And then being yogi, it is the union and sharing that I privilege today.
What makes you happy? What makes me happy is simply life. I marvel at little things everyday. My daughter brings me the greatest joy.
I do not spend a day without listening to music, doing yoga, reading, learning and sharing.
I am an eternal traveler, independent with the spirit always at liberty.
What is the best moment of your day? The best time of my day is without a doubt the morning. I like to see the day come up, to feel the special sweetness of the light that takes its place in my life.
Can you tell us a funny anecdote? The last funny anecdote that comes to mind: With my daughter, we say every day that we love each other in English. Love music and poetry: I often repeat to her: "I love you to the moon and back, forever and ever" ... One night, before sleep she said to me: Love you ... Having understood "the plane" I tell him why the plane? which plane? And once I realized that my ears had played a trick (or my traveling spirit ...) we burst out laughing for a long time crying! What happiness!
If you could only bring 5 things on a trip, what would it be? During my travels, I take my yoga mat, a mala (always), music (essential for me), reading and my smartphone.
